Does this mean we are going to have to start singing from the Psalter at Church?..

His “low-art = Beethoven” view confused me.. but I did like John’s thoughts.

You’re talking to a non-music major, but maybe he was a pioneer for the popular arts? Beethoven’s musical ranking aside, I am not sure if I totally agree with that line of thinking. I believe that historically the high-brow vs. low-brow distinctions have much, if not more, to do with class than the actual art in question. This has perpetuated the idea that high culture is a path to salvation, which is totally humanistic. Pretty soon people think that only high-art is worthy of regard/contemplation/worship/etc. and that popular arts don’t warrant any sort of serious Christian discernment.
