Papa had Some Rolling Stones

Posted: 03.26.2007 in Biotic

Just over a week after it began (within a half-hour’s time), my painful ordeal is finally over.  My new friend Mick, as I am calling it, is a triangular shaped jagger’d crystal the size of a small peppercorn.  According to the CT scan I had last Wednesday, his pal Keith is still hanging out with one of the “kids.”

  1. Any idea what’s causing these & how you can prevent them?

  2. That’s a little sick that you’re naming them.

I want to hear about the pain though. If you could step down from your stoop for a moment, Mr. High Pain Tolerance, and speak down to us peasants. I gather up to this point that there were no blood-curdling, Kramer-esque screams from the bathroom stall. But, you’ve got to fess up because the pain lets us know that we’re alive.

  3. @Virginia: No, but I’m going to go see a specialist this time.

@Chris: I missed that episode, but let’s just say that of the last four stones this is the one that took the longest to pass and was the most painful. It hurt pretty bad on Monday (all day) and for a few hours on Tuesday and Wednesday. The pain came back some yesterday, but not at the fullest intensity. The time in between I had a dull ache, soreness and general malaise; but generally speaking if the stone isn’t moving then the severe pain isn’t there.

So here’s my fess up: On Monday morning I took a hydrocodone tablet at 8:00am. An hour later when the doctor in the family said I could have taken two at a time, I did. When 12:00 noon rolled around (you’re supposed to wait four hours between doses) I popped my third. I was still lying in bed and, in my wife’s words: “Crying like a woman.”

PS – I realize you’re not up on classic rock bands, or my sense of humor, but the post title, subject and names constitute a double entendre. ;)

  4. Well, I suppose after going through all that pain just to pass them, you deserve to name them..Quads, after all.

  5. Hopefully the rest of them will fade into oblivion, rather than going for yet another comeback tour. :D

  6. Is it from drinking too much caffeine or has that been ruled out??

  7. Hasn’t been identified or ruled out. For the most part I’ve cut out soda, so the only caffeine I get is from drinking about 6 six-ounce cups of coffee a day (which is the equivalent of two mugs).
