For the second year in a row I am hosting an online college basketball pool. Last year’s pool was a lot of fun and I was also able to rid my library of several duplicate books and DVD’s. This year’s pool will be even better, because my good friends at RareCoffee.com are the prize sponsors.

  2. Rob, I’ll send you a copy of them this evening. I’ll just look for the one with Florida winning it all. ;)

Just a note on the program I’m using (Turbo Tourney)…I had to switch to a different software vendor this year because the one I used last year (Leapy Dog) had been bought out and only allowed hosting on their site. The one I’m using now allows you to do a full web deploy, but I didn’t have enough time to set it up. So I’m running it off of my PC and building the website as updates to the games are available. I could have had the software send you an email confirmation of your picks, but that does not actually mean they’re loaded until I import them (thus, the reason why I turned off that feature).

  5. You really think so? The odds of repeating are against them. Plus there’s so much more parity now than there was back in the Wooden/UCLA era.

  6. You really think so? The odds of repeating are against them. Plus there’s so much more parity now than there was back in the Wooden/UCLA era.

No i don’t think so.. i know so. The odds of repeating are moot. Why, you ask? Simple. I will use the same method that worked in last year’s football season.
‘Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened’ Matthew 7:7-8

…and before you go praying for Nebraska, or whatever heathen team you want to win, keep in mind that I asked first. ;)

On a more serious note, my actual prayer was that I would not get stressed out this year. Especially with football. It seems the further we progress in the season, the more important each game is to win. I could not watch Florida’s last 4 football games this year.. I was way too strung out and i belive i was getting a ulcer. I had to TIVO them, find out who won, and then watch the game already knowing the outcome.
So, if the Lord was going to answer my prayer he would probably make sure Florida had a record loosing streak and never made it to the final four. Which would be bad, becuase i would not get any free rare coffee..but good becuase I will be around for next year’s season. ;)

  9. After 2 tries I got it. They ran an article in the paper today “Bracketology 101″. Five different “experts” listed their picks: Mrs. Sullivan’s 5th grade class, a catholic priest (favored Holy Cross, BC etc), morning DJs (they liked the schools that had cute mascots, especially cats), a psychic (she chose which ever team felt warmer to the touch on the bracket), a neurosurgeon and a sports columnist. My heart wasn’t in it this year, for obvious reasons (snub, snub), so I borrowed the 5th grader’s picks.
Keeping my fingers crossed and smelling the coffee.

  11. No, but I wish it was true.. Pam has been trying to bump me off my #1 perch all week. I was concerned about Scott for while there, but he decided Texas was the team this year.. heh.

  15. Thank you for the frontpage smackdown.

    This I know:

    1. Women’s tourney’s are always seeded well.
    2. Pat Summitt has won 6 titles
    3. Rutgers took down a very good Duke team by 1 pt.

btw… Tennessee should have beat Ohio State that evening… ugh.

  16. @Rob: Football and basketball titles in the same season…you’re going to be flying high for a while, huh?

@Stelmodad: Congrats on the win. About #1…my wife said she picked all the favorites, too, and look where she placed (#2).

Yeah, agree about the tOSU v. UT game. I had picked UT for the upset and was shocked at tOSU’s comeback. They just imploded.
