Virb Beta Invites

Posted: 02.19.2007 in Social, Technical

I received a beta invite to VIRB° from Shawn, so now I have invitations of my own to hand out. I have never been one for social networking sites. I created a MySpace account just to see what the fuss was about, but then deleted it a few days later. Shawn had similar feelings until he checked out Virb.

I have never been into social networking sights [sic] but this one is different. It has clean content and is very user friendly, with lots of sweet features.

One thing I love most about Virb is that it has an incredible site design and layout. It’s very easy to work with, very clean and customizable.

Sound interesting? If so, here is the deal (this idea is from Shawn, too).

To get your Virb on all you have to do is:

  1. Subscribe to Transformatum (if you have not already).
  2. Tell me what is your favorite blog (any type) and why.
  3. List anything you think I can do to make this blog better.

I currently have fifteen invitations to give to the folks who complete these tasks. If you would prefer to post an entry on your own blog versus leaving a comment, then be sure to send a trackback link to this post.

  1. favorite blog type: photoblog… a picture is worth 1000 words…

what you could do to make this blog better: perhaps the items in your “related(maybe)” section could use a little vertical padding between them… or a divider of some sort…

  2. Definitely Lifehacker.com

I haven’t been subscribed for too long, but so far I’ve enjoyed everything.

I actually like the Related section. specifically where you’ve got the first few lines spelled out on there.
More pictures is my best suggestion

  4. 1. Subscribed.
    2. Favorite could be this one if I finally score a Virb invite. :) Otherwise, I really like design blogs, especially hicksdesign.
    3. I’d like to suggest implementing an OpenID plugin for commenting. It’s a pain to set up and untangle, but a nicer user experience, imo.

  6. On a semi-aside: I’m not into social networks either but I do like Virb. I haven’t had a ton of time to play around with it but I like what I’ve seen so far. No pop-ups and no adds. No slime. It’s great.

My favorite site right now is a newer blog being written by a good friend of mine, David Sliker: His Hand is on the Door. There is some incredible insight into life and seasons.

I am like the new site layout. The header is excellent and, I like the linkage icons on the bottom of your sidebar.

It would be cool to see some customization to the footer. And I know you dropped feedburner, but I liked your stats counter. It was cool to see your feed subscriptions jump from 4(ish) to 30(ish) since your 9rules induction.

  7. Best blog type would be simple and clean. At least that is the way I have always liked it. Almost minimalist. Kinda like:
    http://glennbeck.premiereinteractive.com/blog/
.. and it is not a bad blog either.

This to make this blog better?. bring back the spell check and editing option on the comments.!. you kmnow i can’t spelll.

  9. My favorite type of blog is one that covers the sector in which I’m interested. GigaOm and TechCrunch are good examples of this. They are consistent with how often they post and in what they post. In short, I can trust that they’ll be there when I want them there (early morning when I’m reading my feeds).

Making your blog better? Perhaps you can get plugged in at Godbit.com?

  11. @Shawn: I haven’t had much time to play with it yet, either…been on vacation for the last several days. Hopefully by this weekend I’ll have a better feel for Virb.

It would be cool to see some customization to the footer.

I like you’re footer suggestion. I tried mirroring the header, but am running into an issue with getting the text to align to the bottom. I think I can hack the K2 footer.php file and make it happen, but I’m trying to pull it off with CSS only so that I can upgrade the core-K2 files more easily. I’m also thinking I’d release this as a K2 scheme if I can get it worked out.

  12. My favorite blog is gorillavsbear.net because it’s a music blog and one of the best. I also enjoy 3hive.com

As for your site I don’t have any complaints. The layout is smooth and I like the colors.

  13. My favourite blog at the moment is livingwithmusic.com.

I think your blog would look better if you tried a one column layout, something along the lines of garrettdimon.com (before or after the recent redesign).

I look forward to getting the invitation to virb, it sounds like a very useful site.

    Thanks.
