After 60
With the Final Four all set it looks like Jesse has won the pool. Stay tuned to see who comes in second and third (though it will be a one/two sweep for him if UCLA makes it to the final). No offense to Jesse, but I think that I mentioned somewhere before that if you entered two brackets you could only win one prize. If I did not state it explicitly, then it was implicit. Besides, this is my pool. I get to make up the rules as I go. Also, per Mandy’s suggestion there will be only one entry per person next year.
Haha, don’t worry, I’m not that greedy….
So do you like this kind of pool better than the upset pool?
I think I prefer this method better, where you get more points per game for each round. You may not pick all of the upsets early on, but if you’re good at picking the teams that will play through to the end then you still have a shot.
1 point – 1st round
2 point – 2nd round
4 point – Sweet Sixteen
8 point – Elite Eight
16 point – Semi-final
32 points – Final
The upset pool is fun, but it is not as important to be accurate as it is to pick enough upsets. For everyone else’s reference, it is scored as follows:
(1) Duke v. (16) Southern = 2 or 17 points (1 + 1 or 1 + 16)
Basically, you are awarded one point for the correct pick plus the number of points for the seed ranking of the winner. It can lead to some crazy results. I can’t be too critical of it, though, as I’m going to finish in the top five of Rob’s upset pool.
I suppose that the other way to score it is to award the same number of points for each game throughout the tournament. To me that is a little too boring.
Awwww I really like two entries, my dream-y teams and the logical choices. Well neither got very far as my brackets are toast! Darn U Conn there’s no “I” in team. I should have known better as SU beat them. Oh well!
Yeah, but I still think you shouldn’t get the same number of points for Duke to beat Southern as if you correctly picked Northwestern State to beat Iowa. I’m going to tweak my formula a little bit next year, but I still think upset points are a good thing.
