This post is an excellent snapshot of history as are the comments also. This is something future history classes will be able to access in order to get first hand accounts of the time. Very cool now even just 7 years later.

On the debate, Kerry is the better speaker and that was obvious. People forget that the U.S (and the world) has had 3 1/2 years to get use to the way Bush talks. He is just a really bad public speaker. I watched some of his door-to-door campaigning from his attempted legislature run in Texas, and he was amazing. This is most likely why so many people that meet him, even foes, like him personally. He is a smart guy, but no Lincoln on the stump. For the debate scoring, not many people watch it as close as you (or I) most likely did. Bush was consistent and on message. Did Kerry clarify how he would do things differently? No. It will be spun as a Kerry win, but the numbers aren\'t going to move much. Bush is back up 6-9 pts the middle of next week. Kerry had to walk on water or Bush had to drown. Neither did. Great new blog. I like the look.

Oh the days of great Reaganesque speeches. I don\'t think we will see them in the next 4 years (but I am always amazed at how well Bush speaks in front of the UN...go figure, a bunch of dictators and authoritarians bring out the best in him).

I had to break up my comment, I\'m not allowed more than 100 words or something. More is always better.

I think you are right on all points. Not enough people will be swayed either way by the debate. It will be interesting though to see how the media spins it for Kerry, because we know they want him to win. One person I saw after the debate had the audacity to accuse the PODUS of being tipsy. What a cheap shot.

Thanks, too, for the comments on the blog. I need to scrounge up some $$ and upgrade to a premium comment hosting account. That\'ll up the word count and also eliminate the ads at the bottom (they can be kind of strange at times).
